The boy sits in a field tall grass above his head,
소년은 풀이 키보다 높이 자라있는 들판에 앉았다.
and he’s thinking of the path that his ancestors did tread

and as he’s dreaming of the future a mist does descend,
소년이 미래에 대해 생각하는 동안, 안개가 끼고
and he wonders if this is the beginning or is this the end

And out of the mist a tall creature does appear,

his eyes wide and friendly, his face full of years ,

he says “we’re going on a journey in my hot air balloon,

They flew over the houses and the streets they use to know,

over trains going fast and people going slow,

there were snow on the mountains and boats on the sea,
산에는 눈이 쌓여있었고, 바다에는 배들이 떠있었다.
and there were lovers in the forest carving their names into a tree
숲속에는 나무에 이름을 새기는 연인들이 있었다.
The boys says “where are we going, where are we going to,
소년이 말했다. "지금 어디로, 어디로 가는거에요?
I’m scared of the future and I’m mildly scared of you"
무슨 일이 생길지 무섭고, 당신도 조금 무서워요."
the creature looked down and said
그 생물은 내려다보며 말했다.
“Don’t be scared of the unknown, we’re going to a place in which I have grown "
"미지를 겁내지 말아라. 우리는 내가 자라난 곳으로 간다."
With a sudden gush of wind the balloon fell from the sky,
갑작스런 바람의 분출과 함께 기구는 하늘에서 떨어졌다.
and the boy shut his eyes and hoped he wouldn’t die,
소년은 눈을 감고 죽지 않기를 바랬다.
the creature was calm, he had done this before
생물은 차분했다. 전에도 해본 일이었다.
so he landed the hot air balloon and he opened the door
그는 기구를 착륙시키고 문을 열었다.
The boy walked out and he couldn’t believe his eyes,
소년은 걸어나갔고 자신의 눈을 의심했다.
there was a flock of sheep floating through the skies followed by a magic carpet
한 무리의 양들이 하늘을 날아가고 있었고 그 뒤로는 양치기를 태운
on which their shepherd did fly and the boy wondered what was going on.
마법의 양탄자가 따라가고 있었다. 소년은 무슨 일이 일어나고 있는지 궁금했다.
So he walked through this land with the creature by his side,
그래서 생물을 옆에 끼고 그 땅을 걸었다.
to his left was a painter, painting the tides,
그의 왼쪽엔 화가가 파도를 그리고 있었고,
and to his right a pack of wolves did cry to the rise and fall of the moon.

They entered the forest and the trees they hung low, everything was dark and nothing there did grow

apart from a single yellow rose that the boy put in his hair
소년이 그의 머리에 꽂은 노란 장미 한 송이를 빼고는..
Out of the forest, the snow it did fall, the creature held an umbrella high above the boy
숲을 지나자, 눈이 내렸다. 생물은 우산을 소년 위로 높이 드리웠다.
then out the of snow appeared an empty platform, and they waited patiently for a train
잠시 후 눈 속에서 빈 정거장이 나타났고, 그들은 느긋이 기차를 기다렸다.
From far in the distance a train did arrive with a thousand polar bears passengers inside,
멀리서 기차가 도착했고 안에는 천 마리의 북극곰이 타고 있었다.
the creature said to the boy “are you ready for the ride” and the boy said” yes I think I am”
생물은 소년에게 말했다. "탈 준비 됬니?" 소년이 말했다. "네, 그런 것 같아요."
So they sped through the hills and over mountains they did go, over old wooden bridges withered from the cold,
그리고 그들은 이전에 갔던 언덕들과 산들을 지나고 추위로 시들어버린 오래된 나무 다리들을 지났다.
and the boy stared out of the window and smiled at all he could see
소년은 창 밖을 바라보며 보이는 모든 것에 미소지었다.
They travelled through the desert to the setting sun, over streams and rivers to where it all begun,

and through the wind and the rain until the days were done, they rode through the land
바람과 비를 가로질러 여러 날을 여행했다. 그 세계를 여행했다.
All of a sudden, the train it did stop, the creature said to the boy “this is where we both get off”,
갑작스럽게, 기차가 멈추었다. 생물이 소년에게 말했다. "우리가 내릴 곳이다."
and all the polar bear climbed to the top of the train to wave their goodbyes
모든 북극곰은 기차 위로 올라가 그들을 향해 손을 흔들었다.
The pair, now alone, walked through a featureless land, no blade of grass, no grain of sand,

and on the horizon a great sea did stand and creature said “ this is where I must go”

At the waters edge, nothing more was said, the boy looked at the creature,
물가에서는 아무 말도 들리지 않았다. 소년은 생물을 바라보았다.
not a single tear was shed, and the creature laid his hand upon the boys head, and gave him a wink of his eye
눈물 한 방울 흐르지 않았고, 생물은 소년의 머리에 손을 올리곤 윙크를 했다.
The creature turned around and walked slowly to the sea, to go to a place where forever he would be,
생물은 몸을 돌려 바다를 향해 천천히 걸어갔다. 그는 영원히 그 곳에 있게 될 것이다.
and with one great leap he leapt into the sea and in the blink of an eye he was gone.
그는 바다를 향해 크게 뛰어올랐고 눈 깜짝할 새 그는 사라졌다.
The boy stood still, alone now on the shore, he stared into the distance
소년은 해안에 홀로 서있었다. 그는 먼 곳을 바라보았다.
and hoped there would be more, and the yellow rose it fell to the floor and drifted away on the wind.
소년은 뭔가가 더 있길 바랬다. 노란 장미는 바닥에 떨어져 바람을 따라 날아갔다.
